Charles Pierre Baudelaire was a French poet. He was also a gifted
essayist and art critic. He is considered as a pioneer in translating works of
Edgar Allan Poe. He is also credited for coining the term "modernity"
(modernité) to designate the fleeting, ephemeral experience of life in an urban
metropolis, and the responsibility art has to capture that experience.
